SUN MICROSYSTEMS OF CANADA HELPS TELUS DELIVER MANAGED WEB HOSTING SERVICES TO BUSINESS CUSTOMERS

State-of-the-art Internet Data Centres in Toronto and Calgary offer Internet hosting and network services

Canadian businesses of all sizes can now benefit from best-of-breed managed Web-hosting services thanks to TELUS Corporation's recent opening of two new facilities that feature powerful core technologies from Sun Microsystems of Canada Inc.

TELUS, a Sun Elite iForce Service Provider, has established two world class intelligent Internet Data Centres (IDCs) in Toronto and Calgary, equipped with state-of-art Web server and network infrastructure technologies from Sun Microsystems. The services provided through the IDCs enable small, medium and large-sized businesses across Canada to enjoy fast, reliable data network functionality, along with the assurance of high standards in security and performance.

Delivering on TELUS' strategy of becoming a leading provider of data, Internet Protocol (IP) and wireless services in Canada, the IDCs, which operate on TELUS' national fibre network, feature critical infrastructure tools provided by Sun. The IDCs' array of Web-hosting services include UNIX(R)-based applications deployed on Sun Enterprise servers and Sun StorEdge arrays and tape libraries, which all run on the Solaris Operating Environment.

"Customers want a service provider that offers world-class security, reliability and performance," said Everett Anstey, president of Sun Microsystems of Canada Inc. "Sun delivers the enabling infrastructure for the services driven network - a highly reliable, highly scalable, platform-independent solution -- that allows TELUS to provide integrated solutions over its wired or wireless Web networks."

"These world class facilities provide TELUS with a physical platform to entrench our leadership in the Canadian hosting business," said Garry Rasmussen, president of TELUS Enterprise Solutions. "Getting to this point was eased by the contributions made by Sun Microsystems of Canada to this mission-critical initiative."

As part of its practice of aligning itself with key customers, Sun will work with TELUS to support its Web-hosting initiatives and create unique and effective joint marketing and sales opportunities to promote the IDCs to customers shared by both organizations. In addition, TELUS is working towards obtaining SunTone certification.

The SunTone Certification and Branding Program helps customers identify service providers that meet the high levels of service readiness, competency and capacity demanded of Internet services. Other benefits include joint business development, sales support training, priority lead referrals, and associated marketing and sales collateral development.
