BlueCat Networks and Sun Microsystems launch security appliance server bundle for corporate enterprise

Adonis, Meridius and Sun Fire V20z server bundle will deliver greater protection against DNS cache poisoning and Email Security

LAS VEGAS, Nev.-May 3, 2005 NetWorld+Interop 2005 (Booth # 1124)- BlueCat Networks, Inc., a leading provider of simple, secure and affordable network appliances, and Sun Microsystems of Canada Inc. today announced a joint original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement to address the networking and security needs of medium and large sized enterprises. Under the terms of the agreement, BlueCat Networks will offer Sun Fire[TM] V20z servers and Sun service as part of a premium package version of its high-end Adonis DNS/DHCP Appliance and Meridius Security Gateway security offerings. The bundle is expected to be available from July 1, 2005.

"Many of our clients in the government, military and Fortune 500 have standardized on Sun. Being able to offer Sun gear as a premium hardware platform for our technology makes a lot of sense," said Michael Hyatt, president of BlueCat Networks. "BlueCat Networks' management console is developed using Java, which makes it that much easier for Sun shops to integrate - this bundle is a natural extension for us."

BlueCat Networks' Adonis appliance plugs directly into corporate networks to securely integrate domain name system (DNS) and dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) services and conveniently centralize administration and enterprise-wide management of Internet protocol (IP) addresses, configurations, and host names. The Meridius Security Gateway is powered by a hardened Linux® OS kernel. With its Java(tm) technology-based management console, integrated firewall, onboard DNS caching server, password and SMTP authentication, as well as whitelisting and blacklisting capabilities, Meridius stops spam and viruses at the gateway.

Sun's two-way Sun Fire V20z server, based on the AMD Opteron[TM] processor, outperforms other servers in its class. The Sun Fire V20z server delivers the flexibility businesses need, running both 32-bit/64-bit applications simultaneously, as well as running a choice of leading operating systems, including Solaris, standard Linux distributions, or Microsoft Windows. The results for the most recent performance claims can be found at: http://www.sun.com/v20z/benchmarks.html

"Organizations have a need for simplified, powerful DNS services and email security," said Brad Keates, Vice President, Alliances, Channels and Partner Sales, Sun Microsystems of Canada. "BlueCat Networks allows us to deliver an added layer of security at a critical point in the network, and when combined with Sun's robust product platform and large install base, this bundle becomes a compelling value proposition."
