Identity Federation Panel Featuring TD Bank Financial Group, Scotiabank, and the University of Guelph
  • TD Bank Financial Group: TD is using Identity Federation to reduce cost and eliminate risk, while improving the user experience, productivity, and shortening the time-to-market. Their use cases include employee, customer and service provider based on a loosely coupled gateway style architecture.

  • Scotiabank: Scotiabank has successfully implemented Federation with cheque image application, and currently has several additional service provider applications underway. Their use case also highlights the ability to reuse Federation Manager infrastructure.

  • University of Guelph: Higher education institutions are diverse communities of researchers and learners who engage in research projects and learning experiences well beyond their institutions. The institutions procure access to local resources and distant resources based on the members' multiple roles within the community. Universities and colleges are implementing their own Electronic Identity (EId) middleware infrastructure for local resources. The real challenge is to use that EId in a trust federation to facilitate access to distant resources, managed by others, while securing private personal information. Based on examples in the US, UK and Australia, the Canadian University Council of CIOs (CUCCIO) has developed the trust federation edupass.ca. This presentation will identify challenges of Identity Management in higher education, discuss access federation "without management" and provide an overview of the status and plans of edupass.ca.
