Sun Microsystems of Canada to supply computer network server and storage infrastructure for critical systems that will directly affect how the world will appreciate the 2010 Winter Games

Markham, ON, January 11, 2008 — The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) today welcomed Sun Microsystems of Canada Inc. to its Official Supplier category as the Computer Network Server Supplier to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

As a Tier III sponsor, Sun will supply the server and storage infrastructure and installation support for the critical applications used for the 2010 Winter Games:

March Networks’ VideoSphere Intelligent Video Management portfolio enables customers to deploy all-IP video solutions or hybrid video networks that include both analog and IP cameras and leverage existing cabling infrastructure. In either environment, organizations can install Sun Fire™ X4500 and X4150 servers for high density video recording and storage.

• The Vancouver 2010 Information Diffusion System developed by Atos Origin compiles and distributes real-time data - such as scoring and timing results provided by Omega - weather and biographical information to athletes, officials, commentators, broadcast media and a global audience of billions. This information will run on energy efficient Sun Fire UltraSPARC® servers and StorageTek arrays powered by the Solaris 10 operating system.
  
  
• The Games Management Systems will be used by Vancouver 2010 to manage enterprise processes such as accreditation for all attendees as well as the Games calendar for athletes and officials. The Core Games Systems developed by Atos Origin runs on a series of Sun Fire x64 servers with Intel® and AMD OpteronTM processors, running Microsoft Windows® operating systems.
  
  
• The Business Systems that support VANOC in its daily operations as they build towards 2010 will run on Sun Fire x64 servers, providing the foundation for the ongoing management of the Organizing Committee.

Today's announcement was made at a launch event in Markham, Ontario hosted by Sun Microsystems of Canada President Andy Canham and VANOC CEO John Furlong. The event also featured a presentation by Canada's Chef de Mission for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games Nathalie Lambert and an appearance by the Vancouver 2010 mascots Miga, Quatchi and Sumi.

The company's four-year official supplier partnership with VANOC provides sponsorship rights for the Canadian Olympic teams participating at the 2010 Winter Games and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
